Walpole residents are being told to boil their tap water after the Water Department detected E. coli in the supply on Wednesday.
Officials said the contamination appears to be linked to increased runoff that made its way into the drinking water source. Until the problem is fixed, people are being advised to heat all water to a boil, keep it boiling for 2 minutes, and then allow it to cool before using it for drinking.
The Water Department expects the situation to be resolved by Friday.
