At this point, the department says the death does not appear to involve suspicious circumstances.
The Vermont Department of Corrections has reported the death of Trevis Gembarowski, who was being held at Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield.
Gembarowski, 44, of Newfane, was taken into DOC custody on Saturday, Sept. 26. According to the department, he suffered a medical episode the next morning, Sunday, Sept. 27.
Prison staff alerted medical personnel and initiated emergency response efforts, but Gembarowski was later pronounced dead. At this point, the department says the death does not appear to involve suspicious circumstances.
In keeping with state law and standard procedure, the Vermont State Police and the Defender General’s Prisoners’ Rights Office have been notified.
