Beginning Drawing

Learning to draw, and learning to see more of the world around us is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. Beginning drawing offers a new class format designed to meet the needs of beginning and returning drawing students and our busy lives.

The class will run for 12 weeks. Six of the weeks (every other week) will be presented in class at RGS with drawing lessons on the fundamental vocabulary of drawing: modeling the form with light and shadow, perspective, gesture drawing, etc. All of this is designed to provide an accessible way into drawing, so we can challenge ourselves and grow our sense of what drawing can be.

The alternating weeks will be spent in studio - either at RGS or in your home studio via Zoom, where we will explore the previous week's lessons and spend time drawing together. The teaching artist will be there for support, but will also be drawing right along with you. The questions generated in this studio will shape the next week's lesson, as well as setting up good habits for independently drawing outside of class.

This will allow you to spend more time drawing in a supportive atmosphere, as well the opportunity to develop a meaningful way into the practice of drawing.
