Downtown Keene road work will limit parking and reroute drivers

Drivers and downtown visitors should expect short-term changes as work continues on the city’s infrastructure project

Drivers and downtown visitors should expect short-term changes to parking and traffic next week as work continues on the city’s infrastructure project, according to the public works department.

Beginning Monday, parking spaces near City Hall and the Washington Street exit from Central Square will be unavailable while Liberty Utilities keeps installing a new gas main on the east side of the square. Detours will also be posted in the area.

Also starting Monday, Casella Construction will begin placing a water main on the west side of Central Square. That portion of the project will take out additional parking spaces and require traffic adjustments as needed.

The two jobs are scheduled to continue through the week.

Later in the week, Casella is set to prepare for another water main installation on the east side of the square on Wednesday. That phase includes sidewalk saw-cutting near City Hall and is expected to take about two days.

City officials said normal parking and traffic patterns should resume at the end of each workday.
